
Rod grew up in a mining community in North Nottinghamshire. He was educated at Kirkby Centre Comprehensive School and Cambridge University, obtaining a degree in architecture.
Following university, Rod made his career in finance. A number of years ago he established his own financial advisory company. He is also a Trustee of Wintercomfort for the Homeless, a Cambridge charity that seeks to help the homeless and vulnerably housed.
He has served as a councillor on Cambridge City Council for over five years and for the last three years as an Executive Councillor.
Rod is married with two children and in his spare time enjoys long distance running.
